Commissioner provides updates on PGA TOUR Policy Board, work toward Definitive Agreement
PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan recently provided updates on several key developments in negotiations with the PIF (Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund) and DP World Tour. He sent a memo to players after meetings with the PGA TOUR Policy Board and Player Advisory Council.
One significant update is the promotion of Jason Gore to Executive Vice President and Chief Player Officer. Gore, a former PGA TOUR winner, will now have an increased role in ensuring that players' perspectives shape important decisions within the TOUR.
The memo also outlined the process for finding a new Independent Director for the Policy Board following Randall Stephenson's resignation. A search committee, consisting of two Player Directors and two Independent Directors, will be responsible for finding a new candidate who must receive unanimous support from the Board to be installed.
To facilitate the negotiations toward a Definitive Agreement, a third-party advisor, Colin Neville of The Raine Group, will be brought in to ensure transparency and efficiency in the process. Neville will be a resource for the Policy Board's five Player Directors and the entire TOUR membership during the negotiations.
The negotiations also focus on the Player Benefit Program for players who remained on the PGA TOUR and disciplinary measures for LIV members seeking to reapply for TOUR membership in the future.
In addition to these updates, the Commissioner revealed that the 2024 PGA TOUR schedule will be released at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the opening event of the FedExCup Playoffs. The TOUR also shared its stance on the distance debate, informing the USGA and R&A that it cannot support the proposed model local rule, believing it is not in the best interest of the game. However, the TOUR is committed to collaborating with industry partners to find a solution that benefits players, fans, and the game at all levels.
As the FedExCup Playoffs approach, the updates serve as a reminder of the TOUR's ongoing efforts to strengthen its position in the golfing world. Commissioner Monahan expressed enthusiasm for the momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
