J.T. Poston triumphs at Shriners Children’s Open, secures third PGA TOUR title

J.T. Poston secured his third PGA TOUR title with a one-shot victory at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas. Poston, who entered the final round with a three-stroke lead, shot a 4-under 67 to hold off a strong challenge from Doug Ghim (65). His clutch final putt on the 18th hole sealed the victory.

The 31-year-old North Carolina native hadn’t played since the BMW Championship in August and had been struggling with his putting, missing three cuts in his last five events. However, the time off with his family, including his newborn daughter, Katherine Scott "Scottie" Poston, gave him a fresh perspective. The extended break allowed Poston to recharge and focus on his family, which, he believes, played a role in his win.

Throughout the week, Poston only made three bogeys, with two occurring during difficult weather conditions on Friday. His ability to avoid mistakes and make key putts, including crucial par saves on the 9th and 10th holes, allowed him to maintain his lead.

This victory guarantees Poston a spot in the 2024 Masters, marking his fourth appearance at Augusta National, where he hopes to continue improving on his previous performances.
