Jacob Bridgeman shoots 8-under 63 at TPC Twin Cities to take 3M Open lead
Jacob Bridgeman delivered an impressive performance at the TPC Twin Cities, shooting an 8-under 63 to lead after the first round of the 3M Open. Bridgeman, a former Clemson player, made a strong finish by birdieing five of his last seven holes, including a remarkable hole-out from a bunker on the par-3 17th. This round marked his lowest score in 23 career events on the PGA TOUR, a significant achievement after missing the cut in his last three events.
Mackenzie Hughes trails Bridgeman by one stroke, having completed a bogey-free round. Hughes, a Canadian golfer, secured his second PGA TOUR title last year at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
Patrick Rodgers, Martin Trainer, and Andrew Novak are tied for third, two strokes behind Bridgeman. Novak had a notable back nine, finishing 6 under. Billy Horschel, who recently tied for second at The Open Championship, withdrew due to illness.
Other notable performances include Sahith Theegala, who shot a 66, and 2022 champion Tony Finau, who shot a 67. Nick Dunlap, fresh off his victory at the Barracuda Championship, shot a 71. Defending champion Lee Hodges struggled with a 73, and Thriston Lawrence, who finished fourth at The Open, shot a 75.
As the tournament progresses, these golfers will continue to vie for the lead and secure their positions in the FedExCup Playoffs.
