PGA TOUR Board to review PAC-recommended changes to enhance competition

The PGA TOUR Policy Board will review proposed changes aimed at making the PGA TOUR more competitive, with potential implementation in 2026. Developed by the Player Advisory Council (PAC) following extensive feedback, these changes aim to optimize field sizes, refine the eligibility system, and adjust FedExCup point allocations.

Key Proposals to be Voted on November 18:

  1. Field Sizes: Cap field sizes to a maximum of 144 players, with smaller fields as needed for logistical reasons like daylight limitations. This is expected to improve tournament scheduling and broadcast quality.

  2. Eligibility Adjustments:

    • Revise the exemption cutoff from the top 125 to the top 100 in FedExCup standings, granting conditional status to players ranked 101-125.
    • Reduce PGA TOUR cards from the Korn Ferry Tour from 30 to 20, retain 10 DP World Tour cards, and cap Q-School spots at five.
  3. Open Qualifying & Sponsor Exemptions:

    • Limit Open Qualifying slots in tournaments with fewer than 144 players, keeping them unchanged during FedExCup Fall events.
    • Allocate two sponsor-exempt spots (previously reserved for specific tours or Q-School categories) to players in the Priority Ranking.
  4. FedExCup Points Distribution: Adjust points allocation to increase points for second place in majors and THE PLAYERS Championship, slightly decrease points for finishes 11 and beyond, and reduce points in Signature Events from position seven onward.

The Board will also consider a rule allowing amateurs who finish in the top 10 of a tournament to participate in the following open event, and an additional PGA TOUR University Accelerated point for players who finish in the top five of a PGA TOUR event.
