Points and payouts: Matt McCarty wins $1.4M, 500 FedExCup points at Black Desert Championship

In his second PGA TOUR start, Matt McCarty claimed victory at the inaugural Black Desert Championship, held at Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah. The 26-year-old left-handed golfer secured his win with a final-round 4-under 67, posting an overall score of 23-under 261, three strokes ahead of the competition. McCarty’s journey to this victory was swift, as he had recently transitioned to the PGA TOUR after an impressive summer run on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he won three times in six starts.

This win earned McCarty $1.35 million, 500 FedExCup points, and a winner’s exemption on the PGA TOUR through 2026. He also qualified for prestigious tournaments such as the 2025 Masters, PGA Championship, and The Sentry. Having already topped the Korn Ferry Tour points list, McCarty was set to participate in THE PLAYERS Championship and the U.S. Open as well.

McCarty became the 13th first-time winner on the PGA TOUR in 2024, joining a list of rising stars like Stephan Jaeger, who finished solo second at the Black Desert Championship. Jaeger, who had a solid performance with a score of 20-under 264, had odds of +3300 before the tournament. McCarty’s odds were even longer, at +5500, making his victory all the more surprising for bettors.

Other notable performances included a tie for third between two veterans, Lucas Glover and Kevin Streelman, both finishing at 19-under 265. Streelman, who hadn’t placed in the top 25 since 2023, was a significant underdog with pre-tournament odds of +15000. Meanwhile, Glover had also finished in the top three at the previous week’s Sanderson Farms Championship.

Keith Mitchell, the tournament favorite with odds of +1600, had a rough week, missing the cut by seven strokes after struggling in the early rounds. His performance followed a strong T3 finish the previous week but failed to carry that momentum into Utah.

The Black Desert Championship highlighted McCarty’s rapid rise through the ranks, while also offering surprises with the success of veterans like Glover and Streelman. With his victory, McCarty has cemented his place on the PGA TOUR and set the stage for an exciting future in professional golf.
