Tony Romo rolls into PGA TOUR Q-School pre-qualifying

Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo is gearing up for a different kind of competition as he prepares to participate in the pre-qualifying stage of PGA TOUR Q-School, presented by Korn Ferry. Romo is scheduled to tee off at The Bridges Golf Club in Gunter, Texas, which is one of eight pre-qualifying sites hosting events throughout the month of September. The starting field at The Bridges comprises 74 players, with approximately half of them expected to advance to the First Stage of Q-School. The precise number of spots available at the First Stage will be determined once all participants have completed their rounds.

This 54-hole tournament is scheduled to run from Wednesday through Friday, following which Romo will shift his focus to his NFL broadcasting role. Notably, Romo has prior experience in PGA TOUR Q-School pre-qualifying. In 2018, he successfully navigated through pre-qualifying by posting a 2-over 218 at Lantana Golf Club in Argyle, Texas. This allowed him to secure a spot in the First Stage. However, his journey ended at the First Stage in Garland, Texas, where he recorded a 13-over 297. Interestingly, Romo played alongside Scottie Scheffler during the first two rounds of that competition, and Scheffler has since risen to become the world's No. 1-ranked golfer.

Last year, Romo participated in a pre-qualifying site in Lantana, Texas, but was unable to advance to the First Stage.

PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry is a multi-stage competition that begins with pre-qualifying, moves on to the First Stage, then Second Stage, and culminates in the Final Stage. At the Final Stage, the top five finishers (and those tying for fifth place) will secure PGA TOUR membership for the 2024 season. Other competitors will earn status on the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA TOUR Americas based on their final standings.

First Stage events are set to take place at 13 different locations in October, followed by five Second Stage sites in late November and early December. The field lists for the First Stage will be announced once all pre-qualifying sites have concluded their competitions.
